Set up Shellway

  1. Install the CLI

    Run the one-line installer. It places the sw binary in /usr/local/bin.

    curl -fsSL https://getshellway.com/install.sh | sh

    Or install via Homebrew: brew install shellway/tap/shellway

  2. Authenticate

    Run sw auth and paste your API key from the dashboard. Your key is stored in ~/.shellway/credentials and never leaves your machine.

  3. Start a session

    In any terminal, type sw to enter an AI-enhanced shell. Your existing session is wrapped — all your aliases, env vars, and history work exactly as before.

  4. Ask something

    Type ? followed by any question or instruction. The AI sees your current directory and recent output.

Shellway runs inside your existing shell — no new window, no browser tab. Every proposed command requires your approval before it executes. Read the configuration guide to adjust context limits, set allowed directories, or enable audit logging.
